British Columbia’s Steelheaders will be delighted with news that the Tyee Index is showing one of the best early runs of Skeena Steelhead in decades with the ~10,000 by 18 July already exceeding the total number from last summer’s count to the end of September. Skeena Steelhead Numbers are Up
Tyee Test Fishery Steelhead Return via Skeena Wild Conservation Trust shows early promise for strong steelhead with their test netting results above the 90th percentile for July. Let’s hope it holds up through the season.

Surely it’s not the Salmon Farms!
On June 20 the Norwegian Environment Agency announced the closure of all salmon fishing in 33 of the country’s rivers, as a response to low salmon numbers due in part to man-made impacts including salmon farming. The below image shows that there’s quite a few Norwegian salmon farms.
